evening atmosphere at Auensee

Wahren is a delightful district of Leipzig with a very special charm. Located in the north-west, Wahren is probably Leipzig's greenest quarter, about 6 km from Leipzig city centre. It borders directly on the landscape conservation area of the floodplain forest, which runs through the city on a large scale.

Wahren lies between the rivers Luppe and the Weisse Elster. The district can be reached from the Rosental, which is close to the centre, following the course of the Parthe and the Weisse Elster. Or you can head for the Elster cycle path from the southwestern Plagwitz or Schleußig in the direction of Halle. Whether coming from the north or the south: In both cases you reach the Auensee. If you turn off the cycle and hiking path at the lake, you reach Wahren, one of the oldest parts of the city of Leipzig. There are many famous sightseeings of Leipzig in the village: The ancient Church of Grace, the simple baroque manor house, the Dominican convent, the imposing town hall, the viaduct as an architectural landmark.

One is always drawn to the Auensee, once Luna Park and today an extensive recreational area: The Bank für Grundbesitz Leipzig planned a lake with an amusement park in 1903. Between 1907 and 1910, gravel and sand was extracted from the later Auensee lake for the construction of Leipzig's main railway station. Ten years after the planning of 1903, the "Luna Park" was created from the former mine.

There and back

Public transportation recommends itself with the tram lines 10 and 11. There is also an S-Bahn station. Bus lines 87, 88, 190 and 191 also run in the Wahren area. Buses 66 and 80 stop directly at Haus Auensee. All essential distances (into the city, to the airport) are, using a car, so minimal that these do not have to be mentioned here any further. In the extremely compact Leipzig, however, this is not a unique selling point.
