Leipzig grows.

The city of Leipzig is officially experiencing unbroken population growth. Officially, because the figures are taken from the city's quarterly statistical report.

Among other things, the figures show that Leipzig had a total of 586,035 inhabitants on 30 September 2017 - the last day of the third quarter - 10,056 more than at the end of the third quarter of 2016. By the end of 2017, three months later, a total of 590,337 persons had registered their primary residence in the city of Leipzig, 10,807 more than at the end of 2016. The number of vacant apartments has also decreased significantly with this increase in the number of inhabitants. The number of inner-city relocations has tended to fall from 150 to less than 100 per 1,000 inhabitants in the last 20 years.

In Europe Leipzig is a little bigger than Malaga (Spain), Sheffield (UK) and Genova (Italy) and smaller than Copenhagen (Denmark), Glasgow (UK) and Rotterdam (Netherlands). In Germany, Leipzig leaves Bremen, Essen and Dortmund behind. Düsseldorf and Stuttgart have slightly more inhabitants.
