Nowhere else in Europe (perhaps the area around Siena in Tuscany) and thus in the world is such a complete ensemble of fortifications, secular and sacred buildings from the Middle Ages preserved in such a small area than in and around Naumburg (Saale).
As a unique testimony to medieval architecture and art of the 13th century, Naumburg Cathedral was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2018. Naumburg is the administrative seat of the Burgenland district, the Higher Regional Court and the Attorney General's Office of Saxony-Anhalt. It is well known that wine-growing is a major activity in and around Naumburg.
If it is not possible to reach the city centre on foot or by bicycle, all destinations can be reached by tram or bus using local public transport. From Naumburg's main railway station it takes 45 minutes to get to Leipzig or Halle, and 25 minutes to Jena (Paradies). The motorway A9 has a junction "Naumburg" 18 km away. Leipzig-Halle airport can be reached in 50 minutes via various routes.
